Family Feud is a game show that tests your knowledge of the people in your family. It is a game that has been played on TV for many years, but now you can play it online with your co-workers through the Zoom app. You will need at least 6 people to play the game and one of them will have to be the host. This blog will look at how the game is played on Zoom and how you can play it with your co-workers.
In the end of this article, I have stashed all the resources you will need to play this game.

Game context

The game is between two teams competing to name the most popular responses to survey questions to win.

Game Setup

The game can be best played with 4–10 players and one Moderator or Host. To play this game with remote participants — you’ll require a video conferencing tool with breakout rooms facility.

Since team members will not be in the same room, to ensure that all players understand which team they are on , players may change their backgrounds, to distinguish the teams. The members of one team could use the same background image or colour.

A typical game begins with three — Normal rounds and, each round feature one question. One Rapid Money round follows these. A Rapid money round will feature questions, to be answered in limited time.

A complete game will have nine Normal rounds and three Rapid Money rounds. In the end winner is decided by total points.

How to play?

Normal Rounds

1. Choose one person to be a Moderator. The Moderator can see all the questions and answers.

2. Split the rest of the players into two teams. For each round, the Moderator will present both teams with a survey question and then send them into break-out rooms for one minute.

3. When time is up, on return, either team will give their best answer (if it is not a rank one answer, 2nd team can attempt else the round continues with the winning team). The team whose answer was worth the most points gets to start the round.

3. Each player from starting team make guesses one at a time, while answering following characteristic needs to be obeyed:

  • Whenever an answer overlaps with a previous answer, the Moderator will ask the player to guess again. If an answer is vague, the Moderator will tell the player to be more specific.
  • An incorrect answer earns the team a strike.
  • If a team guesses all the answers before earning three strikes, they add the total value of their answers to their score.
  • After three strikes, the other team guesses the remaining answers. If they get all correctly, they get to steal all the points from the correct answers given by the other team. Hence FEUD!.

Rapid Money

  1. After the first three Normal rounds, the winning team will nominate two players — one from each team for the Rapid Money round.
  2. The Moderator will send all the players to their respective break-out rooms. First, the nominated player of the current losing team will come back in and answer the five Rapid Money questions.
  3. Players only have one chance to answer each question. They cannot pass the question.
  4. The Moderator should not reveal rank, points, or opinions on the answer in between the questions. Past 30 seconds Moderator and player can compare the survey with the player’s answers.
  5. After the first player’s turn, the second nominated player will return and answer the questions in the same way.

6. The Moderator adds up players total to their team total.

Be cautious not to reveal the questions to 2nd player until its turns.
The Rapid Money round is usually timed (30 seconds), and it puts people on the spot! You can expect some funny answers😂.

Roles & Responsibilities

This section discusses the responsibilities of each role.

Moderator

The Moderator is the neutral party and conducts the game. Moderator will decide if an answer is synonymous with any of the top six popular responses for the survey question. And the decision of the Moderator will be final.

Following are the duties of Moderator:

  1. Invite all the players to the video conferencing. Ensure meeting has break-out rooms enabled.
  2. Divide all the players equally into two teams. And start the scoreboards with team names.
  3. Explain game setup to the teams.
  4. Present teams with the survey question and divide them into their break-out rooms.
  5. Conduct the game as per guidelines in the game setup.
  6. Award & maintain scores. Moderator will decide if the answer offered by the team overlaps with any of the six most popular answers to the question. If yes, award points.

Players

Players compete in a team of two and their goal is to get as many answers right and more popular to win. Teams will be asked the same survey question and, among themselves, each team will guess six popular responses to the question.

Following are the duties of the Players:

  1. Discuss and figure out within team popular responses to survey questions.
  2. Decide on one answer which team thinks will be the best contender to win starting of the round.
  3. Players can give a brief explanation with their answer. It will help the Moderator relate it better with popular answers.
  4. Players must honor the decisions of the Moderator all the time.

Other Ways to Play

  • No Teams: This variant is a free-for-all where everyone tries to guess. It can get loud with over five people! Scoring is optional. Everybody has more fun when all the answers are guessed. When playing this, the Moderator can give hints until all the answers are revealed.
